Welcome To My Blog

Hello There!!

Welcome to my blog!

I've had a chance to listen "Journey On" relaxation exercise and my first impression was....so calming and soothing, almost hypnotic.  It reminded me about a time when I use to go to the spa for facials and massages, but it got so expensive I can no longer afford it.  I must confess that I felt guilty listening to it because I'm so busy, taking a few moments to just relax made me feel that I need to be doing other tasks that needed my immediate attention.

After about 7 minutes, I started to doze off.  I guess that is a good thing!

  1. Did you find that your mind was focused on things you "should" be doing? Do you think you were able to get the full experience with those feelings of guilt?

  2. Hi Gayle. Relaxation is so important because it can help alleviate high levels of stress. Stress not only affects individuals moods but it can cause health risk such as digestive issues, raise cholesterol level, make bowel issues worse and lower immunities which may cause the body to be more susceptible to infections and viruses. If individuals can learn to prevent and resolve their stresses they are more prone to maintaining their health and wellbeing and also enhance the quality of their life. There are numerous ways to manage stress such as yoga, guided relaxation, breathing exercises and self-hypnosis. Individuals must also learn to listen to their body and what it tells them because the subconscious knows exactly what the body needs and gives signs as to what that is. Breathing and meditation helps the body to become more oxygenated and also help alleviate tension and stress; I practice deep breathing techniques everyday and I find it very beneficial to my health and mind. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, have a great day!

  3. Universal Loving-Kindness

I did not particularly like the first 2 sentences of the loving-kindness phrase! It just did not seem practical or realistic. All individuals will certainly not gain freedom from suffering. Everyone will also not find sustained health, happiness or wholeness. No amount of "wishing a repeating these phrases" will make it reality. We do not live in Utopia!

I agree that "I" must endeavor to assist as many persons as far as possible in gaining freedom and finding happiness. It's an individual matter and choice.

I just finished taking a quiz and have developed a headache. I tried doing the integral assessment but must admit I was having difficulty concentrating.

At this very moment, because I have a headache, the biological aspect of my life is causing me some difficulty and stress. The best way for me to remedy this is to drink a glass of water and go to bed. I don't like taking medication and prefer going the natural route.

Please share with me your thoughts.

  4. Concentration Meditation

I do at times have difficulty concentrating so to become more focus, I did concentration meditation earlier this week. There were a number of staff on holiday in my Department and I knew this would have been a stressful week.

To curb my mind from wandering, 2 days this week, I took 5 minutes before starting my work day by focusing on a single point, taking deep breaths and repeating my mantra…”today is a new day filled with potential and promises, I will not allow anyone to dictate how I feel. I will choose to be positive and stay focus”. Some days were challenging but I found when I go back to my breathing exercise and repeated my mantra, I was more in control and at the end of the day, I was not stressed out.

The term “one cannot lead another where one has not gone himself”, suggest to me that we should always practice what we preach. In other words you must make sure do yourself what you are advising others to do. Why would I give any creditability to a physician who encourages me to stop smoking if he is a chain smoker?

As health and wellness professionals we have an obligation to guard our reputation and creditability jealousy. Instead of being a stumbling block, we should be a stepping stone for others to aspire and gain optimal health.
I personally believe in a holistic approach to medicine and have been trying to practice that for the last 15 years. Keeping and maintaining positive relationships, incorporating a healthy lifestyle by eliminating animal products and reducing my cholesterol and calorie intake, daily exercise, and an overall balance in my activities, has improved my health tremendously. Since starting this course, I have now included meditation and mindfulness exercises to retrain my mind and keep it in focus.

    Any thoughts, please share.
