I tend to loose focus very easily and I find that the subtle mind exercise worked better for me than the loving kindness exercise!  The breathing technique caused me to deliberately focus on what I was doing in that very moment.  Of course, as I started to relax and get into a meditative state I mind started to wonder, but I brought my mind back into focus by going back to the breathing technique.

While the loving kindness exercise was o.k. I found that because it asked me to initially focus on someone who I loved and cared about, I found myself only thinking of the attributes and  mannerisms of the loved one and not on myself which defeats the whole point.    My personal view is if I practice the psychospiritual daily I should have greater patience and inner calm.   Something I need to incorporate in my busy life!.

The strength I find in spiritual mediation and prayer has always been a stabilising force in my life and I guess that is because of my upbringing.   My mother always taught that having a connection with God, (through prayer and bible study) would give your life a sense of purpose of meaning and over the years I have proven this to be true.

Spiritual, mental and physical health are all interconnected.   By bringing my emotions into balance (mental), incorporating a lifestyle of eating healthy meals and physical exercise (physical) and finding time to meditate  (spiritual), my life will be balanced and flourish.

  1. Good for you Gayle that you brought your mind back! Isn't it amazing how you can have all this chatter in your own head. That is so great that your mom planted those seeds of spirituality in your heart. I am going to my first Community Bible Study and I'm really enjoying it! Keep up all the great balance, I love to see people flourishing! Dawn

  2. Gayle,
It is very easy to lose focus. I feel that we all experience that at some point of time. I know that I experience it a lot. I can agree fully with being in a meditative state, and then the mind starts to wander. I only find some parts of the Loving Kindess exercise that are okay for me, the relaxation exercise does wonders for me. It is good to have that connection with God, though I do not posess that same connection with god. It is good to know that others do, and it helps me along to finding myself in the spirtual world.

  3. I felt the same way Gayle, the loving kindness was rather difficult. With this one I was able to focus on the relaxation and quiet of the mind allowing me to get the benefits from it. In the past I have used walking and putting all my thoughts into a list form to help with gathering them; but this exercise helped me banish the things I did not need to think of any more. I am so loving it!!!
