There are two (2) techniques that I have found to be of
benefit to me in my busy, hectic life.
With pressure from work, an active family, church and other civic
duties, I find myself constantly going, going, going to the point where I can’t
seem to relax. As a matter of fact, when
I do find that rare time to relax I almost feel guilty doing it but
visualization and meditation has helped me to focus and put things into
perspective.
Visualization: A
form of relaxation that allows me to make goals. It inspires me to take action toward meeting
my goals and dreams, and in the process gives me confidence.
Meditation:
Meditation allows me to tap into seeking union with God who gives me a
deep sense of inner peace. As a result
of doing this more often, I have noticed my memory and concentration have
improved.
Yesterday our church celebrated Holy Communion and it was a
solemn, beautiful service. As we were
taking the emblems there was a moment in the service where the congregation was
asked to close their eyes and meditate for a moment on the life of Christ. He life, ministry, death and
resurrection. I left the service not
only having a greater appreciation of Jesus Christ, but also the ones s I felt
while meditating.

Gayle,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photograph. Good for you Gayle that you realize that being busy, busy busy all the time doesn't bring you peace. It's a part of our culture, we thrive on being busy, non-stop busy. It's doesn't make us content): Try saying no to things that you really don't want to do and don't feel guilty for it.
I really enjoyed reading your blog this evening about the importance of meditating on the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I've also become active in a community church the last several years and the services have brought so much joy and love to my heart. Congratulations on incorporating mental fitness into your life. Enjoy the journey. Dawn
First of all I love the picture you posted. I wish I was there!! It is really hard to relax now a days and it seems life never slows down. I find myself feeling the same way you feel and I think as females we tend to go and go until exhaustion sets in. It sounds like though, meditation is helping you with your focus, memory, and inner peace. Hopefully your mental fitness will continue to grow.

Thank you for sharing your experience at church. Do you find a similar connection or serene feeling when you meditate or pray? Or is it a different experience for you?
ReplyDeleteI have found meditation to bring me closer to God and want to pray more and give thanks. They are so closely related I was just wondering your experience. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your experiences! I also enjoy meditation and visualization the most. They have both been very beneficial for me over the course of this class. I can relate to a busy schedule and stress and how hard it is to find the time for yourself. Finding time to relax was always hard but now I have learned just how important taking the time out is for yourself. Its definitely tough, but it seems meditation is helping you tremendously as it is me too!
ReplyDeleteHi Gayle, I love your post and I find that we have our lifestyles in common. I too live a typically hectic lifestyle with me being pregnant with my third (finally having a girl after two sons), getting my eldest son to all his recreational activities, and dealing with their father being away during the week at state trooper academy, things are always bouncing off the wall for me and I now feel I can relate to you! We definitely have the meditation exercise in common, when I was indulging into this exercise I found my mind to be more alert and focused, which I happen to love. The second one that I chose was the loving kindness as I feel like my daily life directly relates to this emotion. Thank you for your great post Gayle, I enjoyed reading!
ReplyDeleteGayle, I know where you’re coming from with feeling guilty about having free time. I am a full time student, I work part time, and I keep everything together at home for my fiancé during his military training, including all his meals! Sometimes I will finish everything 5 minutes before he gets home and as soon as I sit down, he walks in the door. I know to him it looks like I’ve been sitting there all day long, whether I have or not so I try to make sure I’m always doing something when he gets home! Hahaha.
